Israel Paredes pleads guilty to aggravated child molestation and incest, sentenced to 20 years without parole

On February 4, 2025, Israel Paredes pled guilty to aggravated child molestation and incest and was sentenced to 20 years without the possibility of parole, followed by life on probation. The Honorable Judge Dennis Blackmon presided over the case and sentenced Paredes in accordance with the plea agreement.

Chief Assistant District Attorney Wade Mason and District Attorney Investigator Katia Detwiler prosecuted the case. Detectives with the Carrollton Police Department led the investigation. The evidence gathered during the investigation revealed the following:

In July of 2019, the victim went to the Carrollton Police Department with her mother to report sexual abuse committed by her stepfather, Defendant Paredes. The victim, who was 15 years old at the time of the report, disclosed to law enforcement that her stepfather had been abusing her over the course of several years, with the first incident occurring in Florida. The victim and her mother later moved to the Carroll County area, where the abuse continued. During the investigation, law enforcement obtained information that the abuse had occurred in multiple jurisdictions and coordinated efforts to bring charges in multiple counties within the State of Georgia. After being arrested, Defendant Paredes eventually confessed to the victim’s mother regarding the abuse, which was recorded.

This case is an example of how multiple agencies can work together to protect the community and victims from sexual abusers and ensure justice for victims of crime. The District Attorney’s Office commends the work of Carrollton Police Department and all law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation and prosecution of Paredes. Above all, the District Attorney’s Office commends the victim for her bravery and courage to disclose the abuse and see justice done in this case. The District Attorney’s Office is committed to the investigation and prosecution of all cases involving sexual abuse, and remains firmly dedicated to justice for the survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
