
District Attorney Sarah Japour
District Attorney Sarah Japour is a career prosecutor who has spent 24 years serving the people of West Georgia.
Prior to becoming District Attorney for the newly created West Georgia Judicial Circuit, Sarah served as the Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney for the Tallapoosa Circuit. Prior to that, she spent 20 years as an Assistant District Attorney in the Coweta Judicial Circuit. During her time in the Coweta Circuit, Sarah managed the Heard County DA’s Office and then went on to serve in Carroll County where she was the lead prosecutor in Judge Dennis Blackmon’s courtroom and was also assigned to the Mental Health Court where she helped determine whether the accountability court approach would be more appropriate for certain offenders. In addition to prosecuting cases, Sarah also handled day-to-day office operations and the management of staff in her roles as Chief Deputy ADA and as a Senior Assistant District Attorney.
During her career, Sarah has handled hundreds of cases, including many complex cases against some of the worst in our society. She has secured guilty verdicts against murderers, child predators, rapists, kidnappers, drug dealers, and armed robbers.
She previously served as Chairman of the Child Abuse Protocol Committee and as Chairman for the Child Fatality Review Committee for both Carroll and Heard Counties.
Sarah grew up in Florida where her father retired from the U.S. Air Force at Eglin Air Force Base. She attended Florida State University where she played on the Golf Team and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications Studies for Law. She then went on to attend the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama where she received her Juris Doctor.
She began her legal career as a Florida Assistant State Attorney and went on to work in the private sector as an in-house attorney for a road construction company prior to making her way back to public service.
Sarah has been married to her husband, Justin Japour, for 21 years. Justin is a PGA Class A golf professional and is the current Director of Golf at Sunset Hills Country Club in Carrollton. Together, they have two children, Jack (19) and Mary Greely (15).
