Tony Derwan Wilson convicted by a Carroll County jury of DUI and possession of a schedule IV controlled substance

Tony Terwan Wilson was found guilty of DUI and the felony offense of possession of a Schedule 4 controlled substance on July 17, 2025. Designated Superior Court Judge Michael Hubbard presided over the trial and has set a sentencing date of August 20th.

Assistant District Attorneys Thomas Huff and Grady Moore prosecuted the case alongside District Attorney Office Investigator Branden Smith. The Carrollton Police Department led the investigation along with assistance from the GBI crime lab. The evidence presented at trial showed the following:

On April 12, 2021 Mr. Wilson was arrested after he struck and destroyed a mailbox in a residential neighborhood while driving his SUV. A Carrollton Police Department officer responded and noticed that Mr. Wilson seemed impaired. After a search, with the defendant’s consent, the evidence showed that Mr. Wilson had Alprazolam pills in a film canister in his pocket. Officers performed a series of field sobriety evaluations which confirmed that the defendant was under the influence. The jury deliberated for roughly an hour before delivering guilty verdicts as to each count.

This type of dangerous behavior is unacceptable in our community, as Assistant District Attorney Thomas Huff observed in his closing argument. The District Attorney’s Office appreciates the hard work and dedication of the Carrollton Police Department and the GBI crime lab in helping to bring this case to a just conclusion.
